Nong Geng Ji makes international debut in Singapore
Nong Geng Ji (农耕记), a celebrated Hunan restaurant chain with a strong presence in China, is venturing beyond its borders by opening its inaugural overseas outlet in Singapore on October 21, 2023. This highly anticipated move has Singaporeans buzzing with excitement. Nong Geng Ji has gained a stellar reputation for its genuine and mouthwatering Hunan dishes, consistently ranking as the number one choice on DianPing, China’s go-to review platform, in cities like Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. The enduring lines of eager patrons outside their restaurants, willing to wait for over an hour, undoubtedly reflect the outstanding quality of their cuisine.
Chef Feng Guo Hua, affectionately known as Uncle Hua, laid the foundation of Nong Geng Ji in Shenzhen in 2017. With over three decades of culinary mastery, Chef Hua’s unwavering commitment to utilising only the freshest Hunan ingredients serves as the guiding light for the entire establishment. This dedication to quality extends beyond the kitchen, as Nong Geng Ji proudly operates as a social enterprise, actively collaborating with farmers throughout China.
The restaurant’s extensive menu is a captivating voyage into the heart of traditional Hunan cuisine, where the bold and spicy flavours of the region take centre stage. Signature dishes like the Stir-Fried Pork with Abalone and Chilli, an exquisite fusion of plump baby abalones with native Hunan cuisine, have earned well-deserved acclaim. Equally enticing is the Stir-Fried Beef with Fried Chilli, a culinary masterpiece known for its enticing aroma, derived from specially imported Hunan Dried Peppers, and it has won over the palates of discerning diners in Beijing.
For those who prefer milder flavours, Nong Geng Ji offers a variety of options, such as the Steamed Fish Head with Chopped Peppers, showcasing the succulent fish head from the cold regions, and Mini Potatoes with Broth, which uses young potatoes to create a dish bursting with flavours after being steamed and boiled in a rich bone broth. Beancurd Skin with Eggs is nutritious, offering a unique taste experience. And to complement these dishes, their Wuchang Rice with Sweet Potatoes and Red Dates is a signature creation, featuring sweet potato chunks and red dates to add a subtle sweetness to the fluffy grains of rice, all cooked and served in a pressure pot to ensure continuous warmth.
