Journey around the world with Alliance Française’s immersive exhibition
An iconic symbol of French education and cultural discovery in Singapore, Alliance Française De Singapour is a local non-profit organisation that has tirelessly offered a multitude of unique opportunities for the public to learn and engage with the rich and diverse cultures of the French-speaking world.
As one of their latest endeavours, they invite the public on a journey Around The World. An immersive exhibition showcasing the best of French transportation across the ages, they take us all back in time to the very beginning, progressively travelling to the present.
Inspired by the classic novel Around the World in 80 Days, and the French author’s Extraordinary Voyages collection, the Around The World exhibition is running from now till Jul 15 at the Alliance Française.
Split into sections of air, land, sea, and space transportations, visitors will get to explore different eras and gain insights into the evolution of French engineering and innovation. Upon arrival at the Itinerary Office, visitors are greeted and invited to write the first pages of their own extraordinary journey.
At the land transportation section, discover France’s intercity Train à Grande Vitesse, also known as their “high-speed train”. Constantly pushing the limits of high-speed rail technology and the world record holder for speed, find out more about their newest generation of trains and cost-efficient modes of land travel.
A model of the SS France celebrates the epitome of French excellence at the sea transportation section. Step into what was once the longest Trans-Atlantic liner in the world – a record held for 42 years – recalling her journey, beauty and grace till her last voyage in 1974.
Over at air transportation, visitors will find some of the most iconic aircrafts that have shaped modern air travel, including a model of Air France’s Concorde – the world’s first supersonic commercial airplane. Check out its glory days and have a look at the original menu, tableware, and beauty pouch on display.
The last room takes visitors to space, where you’ll get to taste space travel first-hand through a Virtual Reality experience. Explore space like never before through the lens of famous French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who spent six months on the International Space Station.
In addition to the exhibition, there’ll also be an exciting series of talks, film screenings, workshops, and activities for kids at the Alliance Française de Singapour.
